ABOUT GHF

It is estimated that nearly one billion men, women, and children are living in slums in the developing world. These abhorrent conditions are a personal tragedy for each family that lives in them. They also represent a moral crisis for the rest of us--and a threat to the global economy and world security.

Private-public partnerships like that of Global Housing Foundation are crucial to addressing and solving these catastrophic, imminent problems. For this reason, the United Nations, through its UN-HABITAT Human Settlements Program, has embraced Global Housing Foundation as a powerful model for slum-improvement programs. Global Housing Foundation is considered an official partner to the United Nations' global housing efforts. In 2002, the United Nations awarded its "Scroll of Honor" to Global Housing Foundation's founder, René Frank.

MISSION
GHF's mission is to reach the 350,000,000 urban homeless slum dwellers that are employed or have a source of income and offer them the opportunity to own a quality home that can be financed on a long-term basis with a GHF 'micro-mortgage'. GHF's micro-mortgage program can transform large numbers of families from slum dwellers to proud homeowners almost in an instant. Their new home will provide them with the safety, security, shelter from the elements, an elevated social status and the uniting of family members that they did not have previously.
